Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing a College
Choosing the right college can be a very daunting task. How do you make the right decision? Here are some tips to avoid making common mistakes along the way:
- Rushing. Don’t rush. Making the right choice for you requires time and patience. Do research on the colleges that best fit your goals. Waiting to the last minute is never the right way.
- Lead. Don’t follow. Following a friend, boyfriend or girlfriend to their college is not the best choice. You need to make the best choice for you.
- Legacy Choice. Only considering the colleges of your parents or other family members may not always be in your best interest. Always explore your options to find the right fit for you.
- Fan Choice- We all have our favorite team. But don’t make your choice of college because of their sports team.
- Location. Whether you want to stay close to home or get as far away as possible, location should not be the only factor in choosing a college.
- Major. Choosing a college based on your current major (odds are your major will change) may not be the best choice. Consider your options.
